Hernán Luis y Prado, a 15-year Navy combat veteran, was faced with a challenge: more of his fellow service members were dying from suicide than bombs and bullets in conflict zones. Realizing the challenges of transitioning back to civilian life, and our nation's lack of an advanced manufacturing workforce training pipeline, Luis y Prado created Workshops for Warriors, (WFW.org) a program that retrains veterans for advanced manufacturing careers. San Diego is the birthplace for this green manufacturing renaissance that gives veterans purposeful, dignified careers and ways to provide for their families and communities.

The education system is missing a big part of the picture by only measuring academics. And here's why: We're teaching whole children. We can't just teach and measure academics—we must include social emotional learning. Research on the unhoused students at Monarch Schools shows the impact of integrating social emotional learning with academics to improve outcomes for students.
Food travels through immigration, migration or indenture. Our foods tell our ancestors' stories—of the lands we left behind, of the lands we now call our own. How we adopt/adapt informs us on how we live and love. What we talk about when we talk about food is stories of where we call home. We were ALL immigrants once, this is our story. As the daughter of refugees (from what's now Bangladesh when India was divided during the 1947 partition of British-ruled India), and an immigrant to America as a graduate student, award-winning author, social justice activist and scientist, Madhushree Ghosh talks about how San Diego, America's Finest City, celebrates immigrants and refugees. In particular, she talks about the amazing gardeners of City Heights' New Roots Community Farm--an organic, sustainable farm run by immigrants and refugees from all over the world. How we live, how we love, how we share food tells us what is important to us. In a fast moving world, Madhushree rallies for us to have a conversation with our farmers, talk about our immigrant roots, and honor our stories that we tell through the foods of our ancestors.

Imagine how Ports can play a key role as catalysts for new blue economy innovation to solve some of our biggest global challenges, how they can change their business models to support innovation, entrepreneurship, and start up companies. We are already seeing signals of this happening around the globe, but what we have here in San Diego is very unique, and at the moment the only one of its kind in the world, where we have developed a new model for public private partnerships to support start-up companies by facilitating pilot projects and allowing them to test their technology in a real-world port environment.
Hopelessness and distance are two of the biggest impediments towards meaningful climate action. Solutions-focused storytelling can help move us beyond those barriers.

Over One Million innocent children experience the fallout from their parents’ divorce each year in the United States. As a “Warrior Peace Advocate for Kids Caught in the Crossfire”, Stu Weintraub shares his "Love-Before-Law" message and gives these children a voice. His idea worth spreading is to change how parents divorce in this country by advocating mediation over litigation and urging parents to seek support from clergy, counseling and coaching instead of resorting to court. In support of his neurodivergent invisible disability, Stu was assisted with a podium, tablet, and teleprompter app. He hopes this talk will not only help the kids who have been caught in the crossfire of divorce-related conflict, but also help diminish the stigma that often exists for people with invisible disabilities. He hopes to inspire others from the neurodivergent community, that they too, can stand on the red dot and share their idea worth spreading.
